fashion week + birthday weekend

February 22, 2012 § Leave a comment

Happy Saturday! Today we kicked off Taylor’s birthday weekend with our new favorite blueberry pancakes. He has burgers, a massage and Chipotle in his future for the rest of the day. I’m still thinking about the plans for his actual birthday tomorrow but I’m pretty sure it will involve cinnamon rolls, bacon and a cookie cake. Penelope is excited to give him the little gag gifts she picked up yesterday. We hope he doesn’t choose today to start reading my blog.

On a completely unrelated note, or maybe on a similarly festive and celebratory note, on this slow and lazy Saturday morning, I’m browsing the web, sipping my green tea and wishing I had a reason to need one (or all) of Monique Lhuillier’s evening gowns..

I know. I’ve been M.I.A.

Forgive. Hope to post some more life updates and better pics soon. I’ve decorated for Christmas, made some holiday goodies, sent off our Christmas cards, been keeping up with my advent calendar and even wrapped a few gifts!

I just had to share this fabulous video from Advanced Style. Watch it and you won’t be sorry. I hope I’m half as awesome as Ms. Dell by the time I’m 78. Check out the videos and pics on their site. All a hoot and well worth it.

How cute are these?!  One inspirational and brave gal set out to make them herself. I’m inspired and impressed. Summer is for crafting so I’m filing this one away.

Evidently it’s time for me to go back to work because I have too much time on my hands.

Nevertheless, I’ve been eyeing this skirt since September and received a dangerous email this morning from J.Crew that their sale is 30% and free shipping if you spend over $150. This little gold skirt has been on sale for a while, but they have never had my size. C’est la vie. And even though their sale goes on sale about every other day, I went over and had a looksie… Because I have too much time.

Behold. The little gold skirt is now available in two sizes, one of which is mine!

But this free shipping business must be utilized. So, being the savvy shopper that I am, I quickly accumulated enough stuff in my cart from the Factory, which has the same promotion but is not final sale like the regular store is. Meaning, I can return those things once they have served their aquisitionofreeshipping purpose. { Side note: See, this whole final sale business at the regular store is their catch to get people like me who went to college for four years in College Station and got adept at buying clothes online, spending enough to finagle free shipping, then returning the excess in Austin}

Anyway. I had too much time on my hands then too.

All that to say, this triumphant morning, I scored my skirt for half off the original price, with free shipping.

Thanks for sharing in my victory of patience over full prices and shipping costs.
